1. Clear and set the table and make sure there are enough chairs for everyone.
2. Give everyone enough notice about the time that the meal will be served.
3. Shop for food and cook together to give children a greater sense of participation
4. Before the meal begins turn the TV off and phones to silent.
5. Introduce a sense of occasion by using place mats, napkins, fancy glassware or flowers.
6. Work towards positive and inclusive conversations at meals; plan topics if necessary.
7. Encourage everyone at the table to tell a story about something that happened during the day.
8. Focus more on the social aspect of the meal than the amount of food that gets eaten.
9. Eat slowly to give a good example to children and not to rush to gobble food down.
10. If time’s an issue, make meals that are quick and easy to prepare.
